Ne Me Plaignez Pas

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 18, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 18, 2006

French adaptation by Eddie Marnay of Please Don’t Sympathise

Je sais qu’il me traite
Comme il traite les autres
On dirait presque
Qu’il ne m’aime pas
Quand vous me dites

Tous mes amis m’appellent
Je vous remercie
De votre sympathie
Non ne me plaignez pas
Mais restez l®§

Quand je suis seule
Je suis bien dans ma chambre
Avec un livre
Ou un film ancien
Et pour ma f®?te
Si c’est vrai qu’il m’oublie
J’ai vos cadeaux
Pour me chauffer le coeur

Oui… ne me plaignez pas
Ma vie est plutÙt belle
Et quand Áa ne va pas
Tous mes amis m’appellent
Je vous remercie
Pour votre sympathie
Non ne me plaignez pas
Mais restez l®§

Je comprends vos raisons
Vous voyez s?r’ment mieux que moi
Pourtant…

Ne me plaignez pas
Ma vie est plutÙt belle
Et quand Áa ne va pas
Tous mes amis m’appellent
Je vous remercie
De votre sympathie
Non ne me plaignez pas
Mais restez

Please Don’t Sympathise

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 18, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 18, 2006

Everybody tells me
I should try to forget you
They tell me why but don’t tell me how
I know they mean well
But it does not help me
I’ll work it out by myself somehow
Gotta be on my own
It’s just something I must face alone

Please Don’t Sympathise
It Really Doesn’t Help
Don’t Give Me Your Advice
Keep It To Yourself
I Appreciate You’re Taking Time To Call
But Please Don’t Sympathise
It Doesn’t Help At All

Friends come to see me
But I just can’t face them
I feel a fool
When they see me cry
Since you walked out I’ve been so downhearted
It’s hard to take
But I know I must try

Please Don’t Sympathise etc

Recorded by Shena Easton and

Celine Dion
(adaptation Eddie Marnay)

The Greatest Adventure

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 18, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 18, 2006

There’s a little love
In The Coldest Land
Hiding in the darkness
Longing to be found
And there’s a little hope
In the saddest heart
Hoping to find
And be found
But love is rare
So when you find it
Take the strongest chains
And bind it
Closely to your heart
Where it is safe

When you go in search of love
It’s the Greatest Adventure of them all

Through the darkest night
So alone
Running from the shadows
In the great unknown
There aren’t any charts to follow
Journey on and hope tomorrow
You may see the road that you should take

When you go in search of love
It’s the Greatest Adventure of them all

Recorded by Frank Ryan listen

Hurry Home

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 18, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 18, 2006
Lying awake thinking of you

It helps to see the lonely night time through

You’ve been away, seems like a year

But one day is too long without you here

I know it has to be that you’re away

But I will call you up with just one thing to say:

Hurry home, hurry home

Now I know just what lonely really means

Hurry home, hurry home

Now I know just how much you mean to me

Hurry home

Tonight is so still

I turn out the light

But there won’t be a loving kiss goodnight

Then my imagination starts to play

What if you decide to stay another dayÖ

Hurry home, hurry home

Now I know just what lonely really means

Hurry home, hurry home

Now I know just how much you mean to me

Hurry home.

I know you’ve got things to do

And I don’t want to trouble you

But I just can’t stand the lonelinessÖ

Hurry home, hurry home

Now I know just what lonely really means

Hurry home, hurry home

Now I know

Just how much you mean to me

Hurry home

Hurry home

Recorded by Wavelength and Sara Brightman

The Whitaker Band

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 1, 2006 by Steve ThompsonNovember 5, 2016

2016-11-04_10-43-16Over the years mine and Mick Whitakers paths have crossed many times. Around 1997-1999 I was gigging in a line-up with him that I thought was really good. The pic to the right shows Mick, Ken and me at the Bierex in Newcastle, one of our regular gigs. For me. this was probably the most enjoyable live performance period of my music career.

Mick Whitaker (Panama Red) Vocals/Percussion
Andy Hawking (Bobby Decent) Keyboards/Vocals
Steve Thompson (Davewudsurvivor) Guitar/Vocals
Ken Goodinson (Harry The Bastard) Drums
Richard Rutherford (Jack Death) Bass

Below is a gig list I found on my PC – I would say this was 1999. Sadly my involvement in this band came to an end when I moved to Teesside. I recall that Ousburn Delta gig outdoors on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I intended recording it but didn’t. I wish I had as it was incredible. It was meant to be me, Mick and Andy performing “unplugged” but Richard and our new drummer Graham (playing brushes) came along too. We were no boy band but as Mick, Andy, and Me, sang an acapella harmony there was a clearly audible sigh from the audience.

11 July Turks Head South Shields
24 July Archer Newcastle
25 July Bierex Newcastle (early afternoon)
25 July The Tyne – Ouseburn Delta Folk & Blues Festival (late afternoon)
31 July Butlers – Nunn St Newcastle
04 Aug Hyena Cafe – Leazes Lane Newcastle
05 Sept Turks Head South Shields
02 Oct Archer – Newcastle
06 Nov Turks Head South Shields
14 Nov Bierex Newcastle
18 Dec Turks Head South Shields

Don’t Look Down

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 1, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 1, 2006

Don’t Look Down One of my legion of fans 🙂 spotted that this features in the "Jobs To Do" section but withoutany sample of the work. I forgot to add this. Fact is I’m unsure if it’s right for Aksana but since it comes from the same burst of creativity I’ll finish it and see how we go.

Bel – R – US

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 29, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 29, 2006

Project is stalled a bit at present as Aksana got arrested by 8 armed cops bent on deporting her. When they realised their mistake they said oops ! – you can use the deportation airline ticket for a little holiday instead. (only one way of course) so she’s in Belarus for a little while

Hollow Victory

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 26, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 26, 2006
Hollow Victory This is now complete as a song with arrangement, lyrics etc. The link above is to a partial backing track that may be about the right key for Oxana or maybe a tone up from that. I’ve sung a version of this but I ain’t uploading it here as it’s a little embarrassing.  (NB the graphic now has people in it.

Marching

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 20, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 20, 2006
How long does it take to back up a load of data, format a hard drive and re-install windows? As long as it takes to lay this track on another computer:- –MARCHING Bored with the maintenance process I started noodling on an acoustic guitar and then this sort of happened. Yes, there are lyrics and a top line more of which later. Hey! at least it’s not called XP or Bill Gates or something.

Sleepin Train To Paris – Just a short clip to evaluate the key. I can see several adjustments to make to this before version 2 is uploaded
