The Story Ends

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on October 27, 2006 by Steve ThompsonOctober 27, 2006
Aksana is still in a Monastery in Russia. I’ve decided that for me this project is at an end and I will now be offering the material to other artists

Hollow Victory with ST Vocals

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 25, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 25, 2006

I said I wouldn’t do this but what the hell. This is me singing the completed song Hollow Victory

The orchestra at the front will not necessarily stay but so long as we’re in a what the hell mood …….

This really needs a session singer. I’m not able to put it across as I completely hear it and as I had to drop the key I’ve lost the crunch guitars as in this version.

Lyrics to this song are here

The Story So Far

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 21, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 21, 2006
Well, Aksana has joined a Monastery in Russia. That’s the closest translation Graeme could put on it. Where does that leave the project – who knows? This girl lives the life of a Hollywood tragedy as has been commented on before. Apparently she’s trying to find herself. Let’s hope she does as I aint going there to find her myself and I’m not recording her vocals in a monastery!

Don’t Look Down

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on September 1, 2006 by Steve ThompsonSeptember 1, 2006

Don’t Look Down One of my legion of fans 🙂 spotted that this features in the "Jobs To Do" section but withoutany sample of the work. I forgot to add this. Fact is I’m unsure if it’s right for Aksana but since it comes from the same burst of creativity I’ll finish it and see how we go.

Bel – R – US

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 29, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 29, 2006

Project is stalled a bit at present as Aksana got arrested by 8 armed cops bent on deporting her. When they realised their mistake they said oops ! – you can use the deportation airline ticket for a little holiday instead. (only one way of course) so she’s in Belarus for a little while

Hollow Victory

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 26, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 26, 2006
Hollow Victory This is now complete as a song with arrangement, lyrics etc. The link above is to a partial backing track that may be about the right key for Oxana or maybe a tone up from that. I’ve sung a version of this but I ain’t uploading it here as it’s a little embarrassing.  (NB the graphic now has people in it.

Marching

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 20, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 20, 2006
How long does it take to back up a load of data, format a hard drive and re-install windows? As long as it takes to lay this track on another computer:- –MARCHING Bored with the maintenance process I started noodling on an acoustic guitar and then this sort of happened. Yes, there are lyrics and a top line more of which later. Hey! at least it’s not called XP or Bill Gates or something.

Sleepin’ Train to Paree

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 19, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 19, 2006

Sleepin Train To Paris – Just a short clip to evaluate the key. I can see several adjustments to make to this before version 2 is uploaded

Hollow Victory

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 8, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 8, 2006
Check this out:-
Hollow Victory – This makes it sound a little like a folk song but it’s not. Well, maybe it is – ALL my songs are folk songs. The end product I have in mind is a rock song – I hope you can see it. This is a working draft complete with melody, lyrics and rough arrangement. Sorry about the vocals, if I could sing I’d be deadly.

Visiting Chic Vocalist

The Steve Thompson Band Posted on August 6, 2006 by Steve ThompsonAugust 6, 2006

Chick vocalist ( aged 4 and a half) has now left. Session was a success although she occasionally concentrated on dance steps and forgot to sing. What this means for this project is that the studio is all powered up and working.

This being the case I’ll be starting to lay tracks and the first up will be "I will Go Back" and brand new song "Hollow Victory" (need second verse lyrics for that)

Before pressing on though I’d like to go back into the archives just one more time and present up some songs from the same era(s) that Graham has already picked.

Here we go – Never Say Die – Your Finest Hour and A Video A Pizza & a Couple of Cans, "Pizza" is a bit quirky and some would say a joke song but it’s a very honest song as I thought of it one evening walking home carrying a Video (rented) A Pizza (vegi supreme) and a couple of cans (Carslberg special brew)

Finally, here is a song which I think has a lot of promise. It was never really finished, first here is the rough demo with the writer struggling with guitar strings and larynx – Better Times and then a live rendition with the song still unfinished Better Times Live. I think the rough shows the feel and the attitude whilst the live version shows another side although the band is poorly rehearsed and the feel is all wrong. (poem is by Tom Kelly)

See also "Silent Stone" below for the last dip into the archives.>
